No, unless otherwise stated, everything is provided to you. If the workshop is hosted at a remote location you will need to bring appropriate clothes, shoes and toiletries.
Normally we provide the food and will even do the cooking if the facilities has the equipment on site. You might be asked to help clean up after meals.
If the workshop is hosted at a ranch or out-of town venue, we'll make sure you're provided a place to sleep. Some of our host locations are very well outfitted and you won't even need to bring a sleeping bag or towel. These details will be provided as part of the joining instructions.
Only licenced service dogs can attend the events.
No. We focus on learning how to do something (like paint or hammer steel) and then we practice. If there is any breaking into song it will be because somebody played ACDC on their speaker.
Our events are free but we do ask for a $100 deposit to secure your spot on the workshops. This can be given back to you after the workshop otherwise it's donated to help support the next workshop. The majority of our workshops are either privately sponsored or are run with grants from organizations like True Patriot Love and the Canadian Legion.
The benefits of art activities like painting, ceramics, forging and carving are really well understood to help relieve stress, anxiety and can even be very successful as a means of processing trauma. That said, our programs don't explicitly engage in mental health activities like counselling (group or otherwise). Instead we focus on the raw benefits of focusing your hands and mind on painting, carving, molding or forging all while under the supervision of master crafts people.
Only the person participating in the weekend can attend. The only exception is for those veterans that need assistance or who have a caregiver
We ask for a deposit of $100 to secure your spot. A lot of effort, time and resources go into these workshops so we only want those who are committed to the experience attend. After the workshop the attendee can have the money sent back to them or they can donate it to help fund the next workshop.
Our instructors are masters of their trade and have a lot of experience in instruction and delivering workshops.
